Truth and Transformation: Changing Racial Narratives in Media

KRSM is excited to announce that we’re partnering with MPR, KMOJ, the Minnesota Humanities Center, Hamline University, North News, and ThreeSixtyJournalism to develop a two-day event in Spring 2019 aimed at changing problematic racial narratives and their representation in local news media by helping news professionals uncover their own biases, and amplifying community solutions to narrative change.

KRSM and North News will be responsible for ensuring that the coalition meets regularly with community members, IPOC media professionals, and experts in racial justice and historical trauma. Additionally, it will be our responsibility to help translate these conversations into the decisions that shape the event next Spring.

This radio station was formed to help disrupt and destroy white supremacy in broadcast news media. We are honored to be working in partnership with our community to help find and implement paths forward in this mission.

This is made possible by the Saint Paul & Minnesota Community Foundations. Read more here or here.
