The Southside Media Project is a coalition of neighbors and nonprofits launching a brand new radio station to serve South Minneapolis. 98.9 KRSM is one part of Pillsbury United Communities’ Community Media Initiative which aims to provide a platform to raise up stories of the community. Located in the Waite House Community Center, 98.9 FM will be a tool for sharing news, music, storytelling, debate, and public health/safety announcements with this densely populated, ethnically diverse area of our city.
But we’re not just interested in broadcasting out to the community, we want to invite you in. With recording equipment available for loan, over 10 free media skills training classes, and 3 computer labs outfitted with audio editing software, we will provide you with everything needed to share your stories, culture, and perspective in your own voice.
Partnering with the Native American Community Development Institute, Hope Community, and Voices For Racial Justice, as well as a volunteer base of almost 200 neighbors, we plan to be on the air by June 2016. In the meantime, you can enjoy our original programs by streaming or downloading them.
